In April 2011 LotFotl left the Michael Fields Agricultural Institute in East Troy and moved to historic Quinney Farm, a 144-year-old farm (1868), in Elkhorn. It’s here, where Tim Huth, a farmer in his early 30s, alongside girlfriend April Yuds, manages 20 acres of organic produce that sources 350 CSA households. LotFotl also sells to Braise RSA, which supplies many Milwaukee-area restaurants, Beans and Barley on the east side in Milwaukee, Good Harvest Market in Waukesha, and also sets up shop all season at the South Shore Farmers’ Market in Bay View. Pinehold Gardens is a small diversified 21 acre farm in the metropolitan area of Milwaukee, 20 minutes from downtown. Besides operating a 16-week CSA program, the farm sells produce at its farm stand in Oak Creek from late June through October, at the South Shore Farmers Market in Bay View, and at the Milwaukee County Winter Farmers Market in the Tommy Thompson Youth Center in November and December. Tipi Produce offers a 26-week CSA (mid-May to early November) with 13 pick-up sites in the Madison, Janesville and Milwaukee areas, including the farm itself, which is located 35 minutes southeast of Madison and one hour and 45 minutes west of Milwaukee. The farm also sells its certified organic produce to Outpost Natural Foods in Milwaukee, Willy Street Co-op in Madison and Middleton, Basics Cooperative Natural Foods in Janesville, and Whole Foods Market in Madison.

WellspringWellspring, West Bend, Wis.

Wellspring, owned by Mary Ann Ihm, is a certified-organic produce farm and a not-for-profit education and retreat center. Growing 100 varieties of vegetables on 36 acres of property, the farm offers a CSA to 110 members, sets up shop at the Wauwatosa and Fox Point Farmers’ Markets, and sells to select restaurants. Wellspring’s mission is to not only grow organic food but to also help teach the public the importance of growing, eating, and living sustainably.
